These range from a simple restart, to reinstalling your playback drivers, which we will show you step by step to ensure you have the best chance of getting your fix. We will go deeper into the fixes to the YouTube sound rendering error in this article and show you five easy and fast solutions so that you can get back into your audio experiences.
What is a YouTube sound rendering error
The YouTube sound rendering error occurs when you are loading content on the platform and instead of the audio playing, an error page will show. It will often be a black screen and will read “Audio Playback Error, Please Restart Your PC”.
One of the ways to fix this problem would be restarting your PC as the code suggests, other ways include reconnecting playback devices, updating drivers and running a trouble-shooter.
How do I fix the audio renderer error on YouTube?
Fix 1: Restart Your PC
Restarting your PC to remove the YouTube Sound Rendering Error is often only a temporary fix. Most users will have the problem repeat. However, this does not mean skip this step. Turning your PC off and back on again can reset your audio playback devices and get everything back in working order again.
If you do try this step and it works. There will be no need for you to do any of the other steps. If restarting your PC does not work. You must follow on with the next steps to get the error fixed.
Fix 2: Disconnect and Reconnect Your Playback Devices
When there is already audio playing, it can confuse your PC when you plug in one or more external playback audio devices. If you notice that the error code has started to show once you have plugged in your playback devices. Firstly close down all the programmes that are using the playback devices.
Once that is done, make sure you disconnect ALL external playback devices and then reconnect them. When all of the playback devices are reconnected, check YouTube to see if the problem is still occurring. If so continue to the next solution.
Fix 3: Run an Audio Troubleshooter
Windows offer built-in troubleshooting abilities, using these we can run programmes to diagnose and solve any problems that could arise with your playback devices. If you find yourself coming across the YouTube sound rendering error, you can go into your playback settings on your Windows PC and run a troubleshooter to diagnose the problem.
If you do not know how to do this, simply follow the steps below.
Step 1: Firstly, right-click on your windows start menu on the bottom left-hand side of the screen, from there select Settings
Step 2: Once the settings page has loaded, Click Update & Security
Step 3: From the list that appears on the left-hand side. Select Troubleshoot. From there then select Run Troubleshooter under the section Playing Audio
If your device has not run any troubleshooting before, you may need to hit Additional Troubleshooters as shown in the images below.
Step 4: Wait until the troubleshooter has finished. If there are any audio issues the troubleshooter will fix them automatically.
Once finished, restart your PC to allow the fixes to enable after the restart. Which should hopefully remove the sound rendering error.

Fix 4: Reboot Audio Device
To restart your audio devices follow the steps below.
Step 1: Right-click the windows startup menu on the bottom left side of your screen. From there select Device Manager.
Step 2: When the Device Manager has opened, scroll down until you locate Sound, Video and Game Controllers as seen below.
Step 3: Right-click on each audio device listed, and choose Disable Device
Step 4: After you have had the devices disabled for a few seconds, go through and enable them by right-clicking them once again individually and hitting Enable Device
If this step does not remove the error code, follow the final step.
Fix 5: Uninstall The Drivers
A lot of audio problems on your PC can be caused due to old, or faulty drivers. This could be the case in regards to the YouTube sound rendering error code.
To uninstall the drivers to your audio playback devices, simply follow steps 1 and 2 from Fix 4. Once you are there double click on your playback device of choice. It will show this menu.
Step 3: Make sure to select the Driver menu at the top. Click the Uninstall Device tab at the bottom. It will be highlighted. Not blanked out like in the picture above.
Step 4: Once you have uninstalled, restart your PC and your computer should automatically reinstall and update the driver.
